Big Autumn Garden Tidy Up

September heralds the start of autumn and a time when, as a nation, we begin the annual task of giving our gardens a thorough tidy up before the cold weather sets in, working hard to create a winter garden to be proud of the whole season through!

From raking up the leaves and mowing the lawn for the last time, to tidying up perennial borders and planting out spring time bulbs, it’s definitely worth making the effort now to spruce up your garden so it will look pristine throughout the winter months. It will also make a big difference come spring, as you’ll have a great head start and can just get on with planting out your new garden flowers, plants and shrubs. Why not try growing some winter vegetables? Onions, shallots and garlic can be planted in autumn and are hardy enough to withstand even the coldest of winters (although investing in a fleece to keep any hard frost off is recommended). They’ll virtually look after themselves – then by summer they will be ready for gathering and using in your own home cooking for a true taste of the good life!

But all this hard work and garden maintenance can take its toll on your hands, so after a busy day of clearing, weeding and pruning, be sure you make time to treat your hands and nails to some much-needed therapy to help, cleanse, repair and soothe them.

RHS Natural Gardeners TherapyOur beautifully fragrant RHS Natural Gardener’s Therapy soap bar, exfoliating hand wash and nourishing hand cream, enriched with Shea butter and Keratin, are ideal for helping to moisturise and replenish tired hard-working hands – [click here to shop the RHS Natural Gardeners Therapy range]

As an avid gardener, my five top tips for tidying a garden would have to be;
1. Invest in a good set of gardening gloves to protect your hands
2. Sweep up fallen leaves from your lawn, paths and borders
3. Tidy borders by removing dead leaves from perennials, dig up any weeds and add a layer of compost or manure over the soil to insulate and feed your plants through the cold months
4. Mow your grass for the last time, with the mower blades set to their highest position
5. Trim lawn edging as nothing looks nicer than neatly edged lawn!

Did You Know…?

Citrus fragrances can repel pesky insects, so try using Bronnley’s Citrus Collection throughout the summer as a fragrant addition to your insect repellent routine.

Wedding Fragrances

As any bride prepares for her big day, choice of perfume may not always be the first thing that comes to mind. But, knowing how closely related smell is to our memories, it makes perfect sense to choose unforgettable new wedding fragrances which will later become one of the most romantic and sensual triggers that invoke fond memories of the occasion for years to come.

Wedding Bouquet

Choosing The Perfect Daytime Scent

A light, fruity floral, like Pink Peony and Rhubarb, is the perfect choice for the day, as the freshness and airiness complement the dreamy, radiant atmosphere. Such soft, pretty fragrances accompany the delicacy of the wedding flowers, exuding love and romance throughout the whole day.

Wedding Couple

Evening Scents To Make A Lasting Impression

If an outfit change is planned for the evening of the wedding day, then with it, a bride should perhaps consider a change of perfume too. Mysteriously elegant tones add depth and complexity to carry the bride into a night of happiness, held in the loving embrace of her new husband’s arms long into the starry night. Grown up but still youthful, she needs a fragrance which plays on the bounds between sophistication and innocence – Iris & Wild Cassis is romantic, confident and daring.

Mother of the Bride

Fragrances for the Mother of the Bride

Classic floral fragrances are an ideal choice for the Mother of the Bride, with an assured central note which has been ever-so-slightly warmed with sparkling white musk, soft amber or light woody notes. Matching dress colours with fragrances can be elegant and fun; pair blues and purples with notes of Lavender, complement oranges and reds with Freesia, and harmonise shades of white with Orchid or Lily of the Valley.

Wedding Groom

Cologne for the Groom or Best Man

Wedding fragrances for men should be sophisticated and rich, but they also need to remain light and fresh so not to overpower the bride’s perfume. James Bronnley is perfect, its sensual citrus notes will keep the fragrance exciting to reflect the buzz of the big day, whilst its woody base maintains a refined composure, perfect for any proud gentleman who’s about to wed the woman of his dreams.

So, whether you’re the bride to be, the nervously excited groom or an esteemed wedding guest, take a look at our extensive collection of stunning fragrances, each brought to life with their own scent story to help you find the most fitting fragrance to help make it a day to remember!

An Alternative Easter Treat

To eat chocolate or not to eat chocolate … that is the question!

Easter, a time of bouncy baby lambs, cute tiny chicks, spring bulbs and… hundreds of calorie’tastic chocolate eggs and warm, buttery hot cross buns!

I do love all of these Eastery elements, but the thought of devouring more chocolate so soon after Christmas feasting, is a little too much for me to bare! Especially when I’ve only just got my body to come to terms with its new year kick-start and a new non-bad food lifestyle!!

Easter Eggs

Eggstraordinary Fact

Although Easter goes as far back as being a Pagan festival of new life, the gifting of edible chocolate eggs was in fact introduced many, many years later. Chocolate eggs were first introduced in the UK some 140 years ago and since their launch, this Easter past-time has rapidly grown in popularity, with a staggering 80 million chocolate Easter eggs now being sold each year!

Non-Chocolate Easter Treats

Recently though, there has been a trend to towards giving healthier, non-chocolate gifts to celebrate this seasonal festival of life… which this year I think I will opting for too; papier-mache painted eggs, fabric bunting, straw Easter bonnets, an egg-shaped soap which smells just as divine as chocolate!!

Yes, Bronnley have a set of limited edition egg-shaped soaps which, with their hand painted springtime scenes, are a true celebration of Easter.

Designed by Northamptonshire based wildlife artist Christie Lloyd, these keepsake tins feature an adorable lamb, bunny and duckling. Each tin contains a luxuriously triple-milled fragranced Orchid soap, which is enriched with moisturising shea butter.

Why not collect or buy all three as an Easter gift? They’re available in our Spring shop for a limited time only!

Christie Lloyd, Wildlife ArtistChristie Lloyd, Wildlife Artist

Christie, an established wildlife artist, loves to paint the animals she sees on her farm including rabbits, ducklings, lambs and the occasional wood mouse! With such a perfect location to capture the new-born additions of Spring, we though Christie would be the ideal artist to commission our 2018 Easter Eggs designs and we’re absolutely thrilled with the finished paintings. Everyone here at Bronnley has their own favourite character – which is yours?!

Bath Time Treats

With all the stresses of day-to-day life, our Marketing Assistant Beth looks at ways to relax after a long day, and how to run the perfect bath to unwind.

Bath Time Treats

With winter now fully upon us, there’s never been a better time to cosy up and enjoy some well-deserved ‘me time’… !

Turn the heating on, unpack your warm winter jumpers, spend evenings snuggled under a blanket watching your favourite film or reading a good book and last but by no means least… be sure to treat yourself to a long luxurious bath time experience.

Bath Time TreatsI love bath times and taking time out to pamper myself, from knee deep bubbles and softly flickering candles to fluffy towels and heavenly scented body lotions, here’s my guide to creating the perfect night-time bathing retreat…

1. For me preparation is key, so first pop your pjs and a big fluffy towel on a radiator to warm. Light a beautifully scented candle to create a relaxing spa feel and dim the lights to soften your mood.
2. Pop in the bath plug and pour bubble bath under running water; for me it’s not a question of whether to add bubbles, but more a question of how much to add… and I like lots of bubbles, so I add oodles…
3. Once your bath is run there’s nothing left to do but to get in and enjoy it for as long as you like whilst listening to some favorite music, enjoying a good read or just closing your eyes and relaxing – an accompanying cup of tea or glass of prosecco are of course completely optional!
4. When you’re all washed and revitalizing, dry yourself off, apply lashings of moisturizing body butter, then spritz all over with your favorite fragrance.
5. Finally slip into those cosy warm pjs and get yourself to bed… zzzzzzzzzz…

Bath Time Treats

We’re super excited about the launch of our new Eclectic Element luxury scented candles and divine body butters.

The candles are the perfect addition to any bath time and provide up to 45 hours of fragrance enjoyment… don’t stay in the bath that long though as your toes will be super shriveled!

And, the body butters are so rich and indulgent, they’re definitely an after bath moisturising must have; enriched with moringa oil they’ll leave your skin feeling silky soft and smelling divine.

TOP TIP: To make a fragrance last is to moisturize your skin first with a good body cream, so apply our Eclectic Elements body butter before you spritz the matching EDT and you’ll smell gorgeous all day long.

Enjoy the bubbles…

The Creation of an Iconic Iris

The Creation of an Iconic Iris

Iris & Wild Cassis

Creating a striking, modern painting that portrays the personality of a fragrance is an artform, and something our chosen contemporary collection artist, Helen Campbell does so spectacularly. Helen is quite a unique botanical artist, putting a modern twist on a classic floral that captures the delicacy of the flower whilst at the same time being amazingly impactful.

Below you can see the fabulous journey the Iris painting went through to reach the final image for the Iris & Wild Cassis collection.

We asked Helen a few questions on how she paints and created the beautiful Iris painting:

Helen Campbell – Botanical Artist & Illustrator

Visit Helen Campbell’s Website
Shop the Iris & Wild Cassis collection
Shop the Pink Peony & Rhubarb collection

How long did it take to paint the Iris?
The full painting took a couple of weeks, leaving time for layers to dry and working with the design and marketing team to really capture the depth of the fragrance.

What challenges did you come across?
My main challenge was making the iris appear translucent, it is important that it looked as though the light was shining through the layers of the petals.

How do you make your paintings look so lifelike and to jump off the page?
Careful observation and understanding of the floral structure is key to making the illustration look lifelike and 3D. Noticing the difference in the colours and tonal contrast across each part of the flower is key. It is something that comes with experience, but with practise you can begin to use light and shade to build up the structure of the floral detail.

What brushes do you paint in?
I generally use three size sable spotter brush for all of my paintings. I have developed a very special technique that I teach my students in order to create many layers without the painting going muddy and to keep the form of the flower.

When do you paint?
I tend to paint in the mornings, normally starting quite early, I’m definitely more alert and refreshed at that time and the lighting is usually a little better!

How do you get into the ‘zone’ for painting?
I am always in the zone! I am so lucky to be able to have one of my passions as my work which of course helps drive my motivation. I do find listening to music (I particularly love Miles Davis, from his album ‘kind of blue’) helps hugely!

Summer Travel Tips

Summer is finally here, so we’ve come up with our top tips for that perfect getaway! Whether it’s a city mini break or two weeks in paradise, with friends, family or solo, our holiday travel tips will make sure you arrive in the sunshine in style!

Style out your luggage and make it yours! Get a statement luggage tag to house your key details and wrap some ribbon or an old scarf to make your case recognisable.
Remember to pack the all-important multi use bag if you are limited on space! It can keep your valuables and money safe during your flight and double up as a cute clutch for evenings.

Enliven with uplifting fragrance throughout your flight and refresh just before you land with a Eclectic Elements rollerballs, perfect to apply discretely in flight with “no spray”. (Our favourites are the fruity Cosmic Bloom and refreshing Citrine Lagoon). You will be holiday-ready as soon as you step off the plane!
Catch some Zzzzzz’s for an instant refresh, take a pretty eye mask on board to help block out the crowded place (and kids!) for the recommended 20 minute nap time.

Hydrate as much as possible before, during after your flight. Even the shortest flight can dehydrate you and your skin. The Aerospace Medical Association suggests about eight ounces of water every hour you’re in the air to balance hydration. Keep skin moisturised with our Citrus Hand and Nail Creams, enriched with linden extract and pro vitamin B5, they help soften and lock in moisture.

Protect your skin against those harsh rays with a minimum factor 30 and 50 for the face (remember protecting doesn’t stop tanning!) Pins looking a little pasty? Begin prepping skin two weeks prior to your holiday with a good exfoliator and get a head start with a gradual fake tan to build up a ‘legs out’ glow.
….And don’t forget the shades – the bigger the better to precept the delicate eye area. The perfect excuse to treat yourself to a pair at the duty free!

Zealous Flower Eau Fraiche

Keep it simple with key essentials to take you from beach to bar and sightseeing to dinner. A kaftan is the perfect way to cover up from the peak heat sun, and stylishly change up your outfit, style with twisting your hair up into a messy bun to feel like you have changed up your style for the evening.   Keep a small Eau Fraiche in your bag to refresh throughout the day and mask the scent of sunscreen, along with a refreshing facial mist to add much needed moisture to skin.
We would love to hear about your amazing breaks and if you have any more tips for travel!

British garden inspiration

With the weather (hopefully!) starting to feel like summer 2017 is on its way, it’s the perfect time to plan some days out to enjoy late-Spring, early-Summer blooms in some of Britain’s wonderful gardens and woodland.

Here are a few ideas to inspire you…

Admire the bluebells

There’s still plenty of time to join the Big Bluebell Watch, take a look and add your own bluebells to the Woodland Trust map. National Trust property, Blickling Estate in Norfolk, will be turning blue on the Bank Holiday weekend (27 May) to celebrate the bluebell season.

RHS Chatsworth 2017Chatsworth in bloom

In Derbyshire, Chatsworth House will be welcoming the RHS for the debut of what is set to be an amazing and innovative show – RHS Chatsworth bursts into bloom in June (7-11). Hot on the heels of RHS Chelsea, Chatsworth looks set to become a regular highlight in the RHS show calendar – and to celebrate, we’re giving you the chance to save 1/3 on all our Royal Horticultural Society collections.

Enjoy an Elizabethan garden

Kenilworth Castle is home to the splendid Elizabethan Gardens – a must for all garden lovers, described as a haven of peace and tranquillity, full of colour and fragrant walkways. Over the Bank Holiday weekend and throughout half-term the castle will host an Elizabethan Pageant and welcome budding courtiers to transform them into Knights & Princesses.

Floral fireworks

Take a trip further south to stunning Arundel Castle in West Sussex, throughout May & June you can experience their Allium Extravaganza 2017. Described as a ‘floral firework display’, these towering blooms are one of our favourites garden highlights.

Secret gardens

If you’re in the capital, you can take the opportunity to explore London’s green secrets – its garden squares. For just one weekend in June (17-18) over 230 private, secret and little-known gardens across 27 London boroughs will unlock their gates.
We hope these ideas have inspired you to plan a fabulous garden-inspired day out over the next few weeks!

We’re raising a very special Bronnley toast to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, to celebrate her wonderful 90th birthday.

Those 90 years have seen unbelievable changes to the world we live in, but throughout that time Her Majesty has been a constant inspiration to many, including those who have worked with Bronnley during that time.

The Queen 1930On April 21 1926, when HRH Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of York was born, Bronnley had been established for over 40 years. James Bronnley had continued to grow his innovative company after the war. Amongst his creations were products developed specifically for women, including hand cream. In 1928, women over 21 were to get the same voting rights as men and department stores, like Selfridges & Co, were beginning to cater specifically for women.

Little Princess Elizabeth was a bonnie 3 year old in 1930 when adverts for Bronnley would have appeared in fashionable magazines of the day. Illustrated by Dominique Fircsa, this one features a stylish young woman, in her trouser suit, promoting Bronnley’s bath soaps and ‘Toiletries de Luxe’.

Bronnley advert 1930

The Queen teenagerBy 1940, the young Princess had blossomed into an intelligent teenager, who loved to read and ride horses. The second world war was taking its toll on Britain and luxuries, like soap were rationed. Despite this, Bronnley’s popularity increased as the quality soaps lasted longer than other makes.

Bronnley was given the royal seal of approval in 1943 when the Royal Warrant was awarded by Princess Elizabeth’s beloved father, King George VI.

In July 1947 the engagement of Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten RN was announced and they were married in November, with the beautiful bride wearing a wedding dress designed by Sir Norman Hartnell. The happy couple welcomed their first 2 children soon after, Prince Charles in 1948 and Princess Anne in 1950. Sadly, King George VI passed away in 1952 and Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II.Hearts & Flowers 1953

The Queen’s splendid coronation in 1953 was also the year Bronnley launched the romantic ‘Hearts and Flowers’ Collection, seen here in a window display and pretty brochure. This thoroughly ‘modern’ collection included bath & hand soaps, bath cubes, dusting powder, hand lotion & toilet water. The toilet water was described as “Economically priced to make Hearts and Flowers perfume a luxury for every day.” We’re sure that Her Majesty would have approved! In 1955, the Royal Warrant was continued, granted by Queen Elizabeth II, and Bronnley have proudly been ‘By Royal Appointment’ ever since.

Floral Fashion at LFW

Botanical and floral-inspired designs featured prominently at London Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 16 – in fact, if you were lucky enough to be on the FROW you might have thought you’d stepped into Chelsea Flower Show!

Whilst florals are a recurring signature of designer collections, the catwalks this year presented the tried & tested theme in a fresh, modern way. We loved Jasper Conran’s large foliage prints, floating down the runway on ankle-length dresses and the graphic petals adding a bold statement to Victoria Beckham’s retro-inspired pinafores.

Unusual floral details featured at House of Holland and delicate daisy motifs were shown on a petal-strewn runway for New York designer, Asli Polat. A colour palette of natural leafy greens and pretty pastels gave a distinctly feminine feel, but vivid bright blues and mustard yellows added a splash of colour to London’s catwalks.

There’s something uplifting about wearing a bloom-inspired design, you can’t help but smile and have a spring in your step whatever the season! Our new Eclectic Elements collection transports you through a world of natural beauty, a wardrobe of fragrance at your fingertips – to complement your style and make a bold statement. So with Spring around the corner, we’re on-trend and our next fashion fix is just a spiritz away!

Find your fragrance style with our new gift box collection containing all our Eclectic Elements scents in six handbag-sized bottles.

In the Garden with Kate Durr

garden designer Kate Durr

Interview with garden designer, Kate Durr

Welcome to garden designer Kate Durr. Kate’s background is in television presenting and she is married to actor Jason Durr, well-known for his role as PC Mike Bradley in ITV’s ‘Heartbeat’.

Kate studied at The Cotswold Gardening School under the award-winning garden designer principal, Caroline Tatham. Not long after she began the course, she submitted a garden design to RHS Malvern which was selected.

What sparked your interest in garden design?

I was brought up in the Wiltshire countryside on my parents small holding and from todderdom I helped in the garden. Mum and Dad grew all their own vegetables and fruit, so I was always picking beands or stealing strawberries!

Mum gave me my own little patch, which I edged with Cotswold stone and I grew annual flowers from seed and rows of carrots. I would spend hours sitting patiently waiting for the fairies, I believed lived in the Aquilegia flowers, to show themselves.

And what do you love most about your new career?

There is no finer pursuit than creating beautiful gardens in collaboration with delighted clients, it’s an absolute pleasure. I particularly enjoy the thought that a garden I help to create will become a place where wonderful family memories will be made. What do you find most challenging about designing gardens?

The technical side of garden design is a challenge, but I work with contractors I trust implicitly. So together we can deal with tricky issues like slopes or drainage and find a positive aesthetic solution. What has inspired your winning design for the RHS Malvern Spring Festival? My inspiration for my RHS Malvern Show Garden was the work of blacksmith, Neil Lossock (@lossocksforge). I saw his statuesque steel panels depicting king ferns and was amazed that such a sinuous organic form could be so beautifully captured in a man-made material. My garden features his fern panels and also a wonderful, brand new tulip variety which is the emblem of the cancer charity, Ucare.

Bronnley fragrances have always been inspired by nature. Which fragrances from the garden do you wish you could bottle?

In winter I adore the fragrance of Lonicera x purpusii or honeysuckle ‘Winter Beauty’. This rather insignificant-looking shrub flowers from December to March, but its heady fragrance will literally stop you in your tracks! It has a rich, citrussy perfume that I find irresistible.

Is there one plant you would recommend to add fragrance to a garden?

No garden should be without Sarcococca Confusa, a wonderful evergreen shrub that love a dry shady spot. It cheers me from December through to March with its astonishing scent – pick just one sprig and it will fragrance an entire room with its gorgeous vanilla aroma.

Our RHS Natural Gardeners’ Therapy collection has been redesigned to feature the work of botanical artist, Lilian Snelling. She was a pioneering woman who worked as principal artist at Royal Botanic Gardens in the 1920’s through to the 1950’s. We’re sure there are many to mention, but which female garden designers, past or present, do you admire?

I am a huge fan and avid reader of the late Rosemary Verey. Her beautiful eye for planting combinations always inspires me. Jinny Blom‘s work (@jinnyblom) is also so inventive yet elegant – I love her designs.Rosemary Verey Gardens

We are delighted that you’ve tried our RHS Natural Gardeners’ Therapy range. Do you have a favourite product?

I do use gloves when I plant, but I also like to be able to feel the plants and the soil when I work, so I often remove them! Your nourishing hand lotion is the perfect solution for my hard-working hands. It has a fabulous botanical scent and is highly moisturising, yet easily absorbed. With its elegant, artistic packaging it’s my new bedside table fixture!

Gardeners_GROUP SHOTAnd finally, if there was one piece of advice you could give to anyone about making the most of their garden, what would it be?

Right plant, right place. Do a lttle reading and be determined to only use plants that will thrive in your garden, be it shady, dry, damp or exposed. Then you will soon have a thriving eden of your very own.

Thank you, Kate!

We wish you the very best with your garden at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival in May.

Thanks for reading – Happy Gardening!

Make an date for your Winter Home Spa Day

“Ah! There is nothing like staying at home, for real comfort.” ~ Jane Austen, Emma
Despite well-intentioned resolutions, January is definitely the time of year when we all feel like hibernating. Staying cosy and warm sounds much more appealing to us than venturing out to the gym! And we’re not convinced that this is time of year to start denying ourselves very much of anything, much better to indulge in a little pampering. So with that in mind, here is Bronnley’s guide to a relaxing, stay-at-home Winter Spa:1) Book some time for yourself, when your home is feeling clean and organised (there’s always stuff to be done at home, but not on your Winter Spa day!)

2) Prepare a refreshing & healthy drink to sip throughout your spa time. if you have time, do this the night before and leave to chill in the fridge:

1 litre of water (or however much your largest jug will hold)

4-6 lemons, sliced

A bunch of fresh mint

Simply mix them togther in your jug and leave in the fridge overnight for the lemon and mint to infuse. Strain through a fine sieve, fill your jug and serve in a tall glass with a slice of lemon or lime. Perfect to hydrate your skin and detox your system!

3) Switch your phone off put some relaxing music on, grab a magazine and a bowl large enough to soak your feet. Then find those scented candles you were given for Christmas and head to the bathroom in your fluffiest bathrobe & slippers.

Bronnley LEMON ShowerGel

5) Start your spa with a foot soak. Add some shower gel to the bowl filled with warm water – our Lemon & Neroli Bath & Shower Gel would be perfect to freshen up those tired feet and it has a wonderfully uplifting scent.

HONEY BathElixir-250ml

4) Run a deep bath and add some luxurious bubbles. Honey Blossom Bath Elixir from our Honey Blossom Collection is a rich and comforting bath soak with extracts of Honey, Royal Jelly & Camomile. Sink into your bath and relax.

HONEY BodyWash-250ml

5) Then use a gentle body wash, along with a loofah to scrub away dead skin cells. Honey Blossom Body Wash will work gently and it will add even more bubbles to your spa bath! You’ll soon be feeling stress-free and your skin will be gently cleansed.

Bronnley ORANGE BodyLotion

6) When you’re ready, gently towel dry skin and moisturise with your favourite body lotion. For a fresh, lasting scent choose our Orange & Jasmine Body Lotion. Its zesty fragrance will energise your senses and leave you feeling warm and glowing.

7) Then if you have time, do some stretches, paint your nails, read a book or magazine, listen to the radio, watch TV or whatever you fancy to keep you feeling chilled and contented for as long as possible….

Happy Winter Spa Day!

Hey honey, honey!

“A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey.” ~ Winnie-the-Pooh

Winnie-the-Pooh is definitely the most famous bear to wax lyrical about honey, so we thought it only right to start this blog about honey with this lovely quote.

History tells us that honey has always played a part in our lives. Ancient Egyptians used it to sweeten cakes and (less appetizingly) to embalm. The therapeutic use of honey is documented in traditional Hindu Ayurvedic medicine texts from 4000 years ago and the Mayans kept stingless bees, which they believed to be sacred, as pets and used their honey for cooking.

Honey still continues to capture our imagination; sweetening our food, treating our ailments and adding a touch of golden luxury to our lives. Here’s our modern day Top 10 honey-themed ideas to inspire you:

1) Add honey & lemon to a tall glass of chilled water and ice for a refreshing summer drink

honeylemon drink

2) Use honey to preserve fruit in jars – Raspberries, blackberries, apricots or oranges will all work. Just add 1 part honey to 10 parts water.

3) Keep hands soft with regular use of our Honey Blossom Hand & Nail Cream

HONEY HandNail

4) Treat hayfever sneezes. Eating honey, especially if you can find honey produced locally to you, is supposed to reduce pollen allergies.

5) Get gardening for bees. Find out more from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and follow them on Twitter @BumblebeeTrust

6) Take a long, luxurious soak in our Honey Blossom Bath Elixir (there’s 25% off all our Honey Blossom Collection until 17 July 2014)

HONEY BathElixir-250ml

7) Cook with honey. Add honey and ginger to roasted carrots or try one of these recipes

8) Read bestseller ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ by Sue Monk Kidd or watch the film

9) Visit a honey farm. There’s the Quince Honey Farm in Devon or Chain Bridge Honey Farm in Berwick-upon-Tweed

10) Get a taste for Beekeeping. Sign up with The London Honey Company for their Beekeeping Taster course in October

Hooray for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is only a short while away and it got us thinking whether Dads get a bit of a raw deal when it comes to ‘their’ day. We all know how important Mother’s Day is and we’re certainly not wanting to discourage spoiling Mums with kindness and lovely gifts …but what about Dads?

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show

How lucky were two of the Bronnley team this week? We tried to coax them out of their tickets, but no chance – off to The RHS Chelsea Flower Show they went!

So we thought the least they could do was to give us an interview for the Bronnley Blog about their fantastic floral day out…

Bronnley’s Head of Marketing, Rachel, takes us through her visit:

Was it your first time visiting the Chelsea Flower Show? Yes, I was really looking forward to it – but I didn’t really know what to expect!

How did you get there? We were travelling down from Warwickshire and Oxfordshire, so we hopped on the train to Marylebone and got the tube to Sloane Square. The sun was shining as we walked through Pimlico to the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

What was your first impression when you arrived? Arriving at 11am, we hoped to miss some of the queues – which we seemed to. It was busy outside, but we went straight in. I was expecting to see a riot of floral colour as soon as we got in, but there were no gardens to start with – just some shopping stalls. But then we came to the 1st garden, the gold-medal winning M & G Investments ‘Paradise’ garden. It was very busy, but we managed to see it through the crowds.

What were your favourite gardens? It’s so difficult to choose! The Laurent Perrier garden was beautiful – the gorgeous combination of yellow and green reminded us of our Bronnley Citrus Collection.

But my favourite was the Havisham Trust ‘Hope is on the Horizon’ garden. It had a walkway with a canopy of Hornbeam trees, with lilies, foxgloves and so many other plants below. It was such a wonderful mix of modern shapes with a vibrant, uplifting feel.

And for pure English eccentricity, the House of Fraser ‘Fabric’ garden was definitely worth seeing! House of Fraser stock Bronnley products, too, so it was great to see their contribution to RHS Chelsea.

House of Fraser

What was your favourite floral display? There was an amazing collection of dresses in the display tent which were my favourite, especially the one in this photo. The detail was incredible. But we also loved the stunning ‘flower tree’ and would love one of these in our garden this summer!

FloralDress  photo

Which fragrances really captivated you? The floral display tent is like walking into an amazing wall of scent, a heady mix! The lavender looked and smelt unbelievable – we adore lavender and it’s still one of our most popular Bronnley fragrances. This sea of purple lavender was sensational…

And of course, the roses! We’re very proud of our relationship with the RHS and the classic Rose scent we make for them, so our day wouldn’t have been complete without seeing and smelling the roses!

MontyDonDid you see anyone famous on your first visit to RHS Chelsea? We did! We saw Monty Don – you don’t get a much more famous gardening celeb than him. We kept our cool and resisted the urge to ask for autographs, but we did take a snap – not his best look unfortunately…

Oh, and we saw Peter Rabbit, too – does he count?!

Anything else you’d like to share about the show? We really enjoyed the Artisan area, with the moss roofed house…and we fell in love with these frilly tulips…

All in all we had a brilliant time – we found places to sit down, everyone was very friendly, we had a tasty lunch (always important!) and there was a lovely atmosphere.

So many talented designers and gardeners, such a lot of hard work and creativity goes into it – we’ll definitely be back next year.

Thanks, Rachel!

Fingers crossed we’ll be joining you…now where’s that link for RHS membership?!

We hope you enjoyed this blog post. For more photos please take a look at our

Floral-inspired Great British Days Out

It’s hard to believe we’re almost half way through 2014!

With two Bank Holiday weekends in May and the weather (hopefully!) starting to feel like summer is on its way, we think it’s the perfect time to plan some Great British Days Out – all inspired by our love of flowers and nature! There’s still plenty of time for a Bluebell Walk, you can find your nearest bluebell woods with the Woodland Trust.

Kenilworth Castle is perhaps not as well known as its neighbour, Warwick Castle, but on Saturday 3rd – Monday 5th May it will be welcoming the Elizabeth I and her courtiers for the Bank Holiday weekend! Kenilworth Castle is also home to the splendid Elizabethan Gardens, a must for all garden lovers.

As well as being a brilliant place to visit all year round, the National Botanic Garden of Wales are treating visitors to their ‘Crafts in Action’ event over the early May Bank Holiday. The Great Glasshouse will the showcase for local craftspeople to demonstrate their skills.

The Royal Horticultural Society’s Malvern Spring Festival (above) takes place at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th May. Amazing displays from 80 top British nurseries will be the focus of the festival in the RHS Floral Marquee and celebrity gardeners, Carol Klein and Chris Beardshaw will be hosting events in the Village Green theatre.

On the same weekend in Derbyshire, Chatsworth House is being transformed by floral designer Jonathan Moseley for their spring flower festival, ‘Florabundance’ – a colourful celebration of all things floral from Friday 9th to Tuesday 13th May.

Taking a trip further south to stunning Arundel Castle in West Sussex, throughout May & June you can experience their Allium Extravaganza. Described as a ‘floral firework display’, these towering blooms are not to be missed.

National Trust property, Blickling Estate in Norfolk, are holding their Spring Fair over the Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 24th – Monday 26th May. They’ll be celebrating village fairs past and present with historical displays and local arts and crafts. The gardens date back four centuries, and feature fragant double borders which are wonderful to stroll around – there’s even a Secret Garden and a walled kitchen garden with a lovely mulberry tree!

Head north to the Royal Botanic Garden, Benmore on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll to the enchanting mountainside gardens famous for their Rhododendron collection. There’s a Family Open Day on Sunday 1st June, with a plant sale and craft fair.

And if you love Rhododendron’s RHS Harlow Carr near Harrogate have a Rhodedendron Show on May 10th & 11th.

For a unique day out it’s always worth discovering if gardens near to you or perhaps local to a place you’re visiting take part in the National Open Gardens scheme. The award-winning, charity-fundraising Driftwood Open Garden (below) on the beautiful East Sussex coast caught our eye on Twitter, so we wanted to give them a mention – they’re busy getting ready to open the garden to the public again in June.

On Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th June, as part of the Chelsea Fringe 2014, Walmer Castle & Gardens are hosting a family event exploring the wonders of the Great British Garden. Kids plant potting, garden games and a flower show are just a few of the activities to enjoy.

We hope these ideas have inspired you to plan a Great British day out over the next few weeks!

Mother’s Day Gift Inspiration

It’s the first day of Spring, the birds are chirping and we’ve been doing quite a bit of tweeting ourselves @BronnleyEngland!

We do love Twitter and have found so many inspiring people involved in making, growing, collecting, designing and simply sharing all manner of wonderful things. From vintage enthusiasts to urban gardeners, seamstresses to botanical artists, cake makers and make-up artists – whatever you might think of social media, it certainly is full of friendly, talented people.

So we thought we’d introduce a few of them and, as it’s Mother’s Day next weekend, share a few gift ideas for wonderful Mums inspired by them!

Pretty Accessories

two ducks logoTwo Ducks is an online treasure trove of lovingly handmade British gifts beautifully curated by Claire Leigh. You can find her on Twitter @_twoducks

We picked out these pretty floral necklaces, handmade from upcycled biscuit and sweet tins by Kate Hamilton-Hunter @katehhstudio and we love these cheerful linen glasses cases.

Rare Radish is Jo Allen, who describes herself as a treasure hunter. When we asked for ideas for Mother’s Day gifts @RareRadish shared her unique creations with us. These cards and cushions caught our eye immediately!

Vintage style

BrookeSlay twitterWe found Two Ducks through a wonderfully generous tweeter, @brookeslay. ‘B’ is bursting with vintage inspiration and we adore her delightful sense of vintage style which you can see collated on her brilliant Pinterest boards

Get inspired by ‘B’ and create a pinterest board for your mum, full of the things she loves to do and see. Perhaps even spend a couple of hours together over a cup of tea and show her how to use Pinterest herself? That’s if she doesn’t know already and could then maybe teach you?!

(Necklace on vintage plate shown above also from Two Ducks)

If your mum loves vintage style then a carefully chosen vintage gift will make her smile. Look for inspiration with Sarah-Jane @vintagefindhour which takes place on Twitter every Wednesday at 8pm and lets everyone share their favourite recent vintage finds.

Mother & Daughter Sewing Bee

This idea came from Julia @bobbinsnbuttons who runs creative sewing workshops for mothers and daughters. Whether you have fairy godmother-like seamstress skills or have never pressed a pedal on a sewing machine, you and your mum can enjoy some time together learning new skills.

Julia is based in the East Midlands, but with the growing popularity of sewing (who doesn’t love The Great British Sewing Bee?!) there’s bound to be someone local to you offering similar workshops.

Fragrance & Flowers

All mums deserve to be spoilt every single day, but Mother’s Day is extra special, of course, and we can’t go without mentioning bouquets.

Heather Gorringe runs The Great British Florist and can be found on Twitter @BritishFlorist. Her beautiful blooms are all sown and grown in the Hereford countryside. We’ve invited Heather to be a guest on our blog, so we hope to bring you some floristry tips from her soon.

And finally a little mention for our favourite new fragrances which come as lovely Eau de Toilette sprays. There are three fresh and light citrus combinations to choose from, Orange & Jasmine, Lemon & Neroli and Lime & Bergamot. All prettily packaged and ready to be opened and enjoyed by someone’s perfect Mum!

Introducing our New Citrus Collection

Fresh citrus scents have always been part of the Bronnley’s story and we are all very excited about the launch of our new and improved collection of citrus toiletries. In fact, it is hard to believe that it was all the way back in 1892 that the first lemon soap was created. We’ve been through many changes since then, but our views on the importance of quality and fine fragrance still remain!
