How lucky were two of the Bronnley team this week? We tried to coax them out of their tickets, but no chance – off to The RHS Chelsea Flower Show they went!
So we thought the least they could do was to give us an interview for the Bronnley Blog about their fantastic floral day out…
Bronnley’s Head of Marketing, Rachel, takes us through her visit:
Was it your first time visiting the Chelsea Flower Show? Yes, I was really looking forward to it – but I didn’t really know what to expect!
How did you get there? We were travelling down from Warwickshire and Oxfordshire, so we hopped on the train to Marylebone and got the tube to Sloane Square. The sun was shining as we walked through Pimlico to the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
What was your first impression when you arrived? Arriving at 11am, we hoped to miss some of the queues – which we seemed to. It was busy outside, but we went straight in. I was expecting to see a riot of floral colour as soon as we got in, but there were no gardens to start with – just some shopping stalls. But then we came to the 1st garden, the gold-medal winning M & G Investments ‘Paradise’ garden. It was very busy, but we managed to see it through the crowds.
But my favourite was the Havisham Trust ‘Hope is on the Horizon’ garden. It had a walkway with a canopy of Hornbeam trees, with lilies, foxgloves and so many other plants below. It was such a wonderful mix of modern shapes with a vibrant, uplifting feel.
And for pure English eccentricity, the House of Fraser ‘Fabric’ garden was definitely worth seeing! House of Fraser stock Bronnley products, too, so it was great to see their contribution to RHS Chelsea.
What was your favourite floral display? There was an amazing collection of dresses in the display tent which were my favourite, especially the one in this photo. The detail was incredible. But we also loved the stunning ‘flower tree’ and would love one of these in our garden this summer!
Which fragrances really captivated you? The floral display tent is like walking into an amazing wall of scent, a heady mix! The lavender looked and smelt unbelievable – we adore lavender and it’s still one of our most popular Bronnley fragrances. This sea of purple lavender was sensational…
Did you see anyone famous on your first visit to RHS Chelsea? We did! We saw Monty Don – you don’t get a much more famous gardening celeb than him. We kept our cool and resisted the urge to ask for autographs, but we did take a snap – not his best look unfortunately…
Oh, and we saw Peter Rabbit, too – does he count?!
Anything else you’d like to share about the show? We really enjoyed the Artisan area, with the moss roofed house…and we fell in love with these frilly tulips…
All in all we had a brilliant time – we found places to sit down, everyone was very friendly, we had a tasty lunch (always important!) and there was a lovely atmosphere.
So many talented designers and gardeners, such a lot of hard work and creativity goes into it – we’ll definitely be back next year.
Fingers crossed we’ll be joining you…now where’s that link for RHS membership?!
We hope you enjoyed this blog post. For more photos please take a look at our
